Why Virginia Medicaid Supports Doula Services
Virginia has become the fourth state in the U.S. to offer community doula services to Medicaid members. This move addresses the national maternal morbidity crisis and reflects Virginia Medicaid's commitment to health equity for its members. By integrating doula services, the state aims to improve birth outcomes and provide continuous support to pregnant individuals throughout pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period.

Steps to Access Free Doula Care with Wild Wonders Doula
Fill out my Lead Form or Click on any of the "Connect" style buttons on the homepage
Verify Insurance Coverage: Ensure your insurance plan includes doula services. Virginia Medicaid covers these services for eligible members at Virginia Medicaid. or the phone number located on the back of your insurance card.
Obtain a Doula Care Recommendation: Request a Doula Care Recommendation Form from your licensed healthcare provider (e.g., doctor, midwife, or nurse). This form is required to initiate doula services under Virginia Medicaid. We also place one in your portal for convenience. Be sure to write "Katie Douglas, Wild Wonders Doula, LLC in the Doula line.
Submit the Recommendation Form: Complete and submit the Doula Care Recommendation Form to your chosen doula or the appropriate Medicaid. This is something your provider should do for you. Be sure to ask them to.
Begin Doula Services: Once approved, you can start receiving doula support during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

What to Expect from Doula Services
Under Virginia Medicaid, eligible individuals can receive:
Prenatal and Postpartum Visits: Up to eight 1-hour visits providing physical, emotional, and informational support.
Labor and Delivery Support: Continuous presence and assistance during labor and childbirth.
Postpartum Follow-Up: Guidance and support during the postpartum period, including assistance with newborn care and maternal well-being.
